The final countdown...
Lo and behold it’s been 30 days of this intrepid exercise.
I am both glad I did it and relieved that it is over. We are heading stateside in less than a week and it would be nice to get some semblance of my evenings back. Like I mentioned a few posts ago, we just started on the latest season of For All Mankind and we’re now two episodes away from finishing— it’s SO good, I can’t recommend this show enough.
I was telling Missy just yesterday that we've been super into this Usborne Illustrated Stories from the Greek Myths that we technically got for Peggy but there’s nothing like the story of the Minotaur or Pegasus to keep us on our toes before bedtime! She’s been loving it too… I think. I remember hearing on a Podcast that Robin Sloan was obsessed with D’Aulaires’ Book of Greek Myths and since then, I’ve been on a weird hunt to find age appropriate books for Peggy about all things Homer. (We received a used copy of this a few weeks ago and while it’s every bit as great as he said it was, I think Peggy won’t be able to fully enjoy it for a couple of years. I do, though.)
As our Florida summer awaits, I think I’ll end with this: start and complete the project any way you can. Don’t wait for things to be perfect, that’ll never come. Do as Mr. Roger says, until you start to do it, you will never see it through. I didn’t obsess over the likes, the comments, and as Jane said, “people are unsubscribing because you’re posting too much.” But I’m OK with that. I’ve used this small platform of subscribers to journal my way through the days in a way that I’ll be proud to look back on.
I also didn’t quite realize this either but Missy mentioned yesterday that she could:
feel the shift in energy …. Just feels really confident
And I appreciate that so much. I feel it too! If I haven’t yet mentioned this enough, go subscribe to her Substack Swim & Color.
This summer, I’m looking forward to:
Scalloping in Steinhatchee
Eating off our fruit trees
Eating a burrito bowl from Chipotle
Visting Publix
Florida sunsets on Upham beach
Walking around the St. Pete Pier downtown
Coffee at Black Crow Coffee
Coffee and sourdough toast at Bandit
(if we’re lucky with Peggy’s sleep) maybe a drink at Lost & Found
Dipping our toes in a Florida spring, perhaps Manatee Springs?
If you’ve never been a Florida person, perhaps I could interest you?
Hope you are all having a wonderful June wherever you are and I think it won’t be too long (though it won’t be tomorrow) until you hear from me again.
OVER & OUT.
